Protect PDF Online

Encrypt your PDF with a password to control who can open or edit it, protecting sensitive documents before you share them.

Files are securely processed and automatically deleted.

Sensitive documents — contracts, financial statements, personal records — often need to travel by email, where there's no guarantee only the intended recipient will open the attachment. Password protection is a simple, effective way to add a layer of control before you hit send.

pdfhubb's protect tool encrypts your PDF with a password of your choosing, so only someone with the correct password can open it, using industry-standard AES encryption.

How to Use Protect PDF

  1. 1

    Upload your file

Drag and drop your PDF, or use "Choose Files" to browse your device. Nothing leaves your session until you start processing.

  2. 2

    Configure options

Adjust the settings for this tool — order, ranges, quality, or text — directly in the panel below the file list.

  3. 3

    Protect your PDF

Click the action button to start. Most files finish in a few seconds; larger documents may take a little longer.

  4. 4

    Download your file

Download your encrypted PDF straight to your device, or start again with a new file — the original is deleted from our servers shortly after.

Features

  • Industry-standard AES encryption
  • Password required to open the file
  • Optional owner password to restrict printing, copying, or editing
  • Original formatting and content untouched — only access is restricted

Benefits

  • Add a real access control before sharing sensitive files by email
  • Restrict printing or copying separately from restricting opening
  • No software required on either end — any PDF reader will prompt for the password
  • Peace of mind sending documents outside your organization

Privacy and Security

We don't store the password you set — it exists only in the request used to encrypt your file, and the file itself is deleted from our servers shortly after processing. If you lose the password, we cannot recover the file, so keep it somewhere safe.
