How to Sign a PDF Online in Under a Minute
By pdfhubb Team · August 4, 2026 · 3 min read
There's still a surprising number of everyday documents — agreements, permission slips, simple contracts — that get printed, signed with a pen, scanned back in, and emailed. Each of those steps is a place for the process to stall: no printer nearby, no scanner app installed, a photo from a phone that comes out crooked.
Three ways to create your signature
- Type it — pick a signature-style font and type your name; fastest option, works everywhere.
- Draw it — use your mouse, trackpad, or finger on a touchscreen for something closer to a real signature.
- Upload it — a photo or scan of your actual signature on paper, if you want to reuse a consistent signature across documents.
Placing and finishing
Once you've created a signature, place it exactly where it needs to go on the page — most tools let you drag it into position rather than guessing at coordinates. Sign PDF finalizes the document into a downloadable PDF you can send back the same way you received it, no printer involved.
A note on legal validity
Electronic signatures are broadly recognized for everyday documents in most jurisdictions, but requirements do vary, especially for high-stakes contracts, real estate transactions, or anything requiring witnesses or notarization. If you're unsure whether an e-signature is sufficient for a specific document, check the applicable regulations before relying on one.
If the document also needs to stay confidential once signed, consider running it through Protect PDF afterward to add a password before sending it on.
